YALI Regional Leadership Center, West Africa, Accra, has trained external assessors for the project’s Cohorts 11 and 12 slated for August and October, 2018 respectively. A total of 21 assessors were trained during the one-day event.

The workshop, facilitated by Jasper Tetteh Ahafianyo, YALI RLC Curriculum and Content Manager, took assessors through the recruitment process for selecting participants for the upcoming YALI cohorts. This session involved introducing assessors to the steps in pre engaging applicants, as well as the launching and usage of the recruitment platform for the interview process. Participants, who double as Alumni who have themselves benefited from the YALI RLC Emerging Leaders’ Program, also focused on the selection of quality applicants with an emphasis on assessors’ ability to evaluate applicants based on characteristics as integrity, professionalism and leadership skill.

The training provided the opportunity for experienced external assessors from previous assessment to share their experiences, learning lessons and challenges with trainee external assessors. The sharing of previous experiences gave the current assessors an insight into the recruitment process and best practices in resolving challenges that may be encountered in the selection process.

External assessors are currently selecting applicants for YALI cohorts 11 and 12 applicants, with the leadership training expected to start in August and October, 2018 respectively.
